South African golf tracking device in high demand globally
Cape Town, April 16, 2007: Local entrepreneurial business and Top Technology 100 winner, EDH, announced today that it had successfully tapped into the multi-billion rand global golf industry by signing two major international retail contracts. One of its radar tracking technology products, Flightscope Kudu, is to be installed in 120 major golf pro stores in the US and in a leading chain of stores in the UK. The sought-after product allows golfers to improve the accuracy of their game.
Henri Johnson, founder and MD of EDH, a South African company started in Stellenbosch in 1989 which develops radar tracking technology for a range of purposes, said that since the FlightScope Kudu product was launched in 2006, there had been a steadily growing demand, "Unlike camera-based products, our product measures true 3D data ball spin, delivering unparalleled information which helps golfers understand more about what happens to the golf ball when hit by a club. The demand for this powerful tool, which is particularly effective in custom clubfitting and teaching, has been far beyond our expectations."
PGA TOUR Superstores in America were in the process of installing 120 FlightScope Kudu units across their network of outlets. Billy McDonald, chairman of club fitting for the stores said that in his opinion, FlightScope Kudu was the 'most accurate and easiest ball flight monitor to use for essential data for club fitting and teaching'.
In Europe the trend is mirrored with a growing number of golf retailers committing to the technology. Most notable is the Nevada Bob⤙s retail chain, where franchise stores in Wilmslow, St Helens and Manchester already have FlightScope Kudu installed with further installations expected in many additional stores, replacing obsolete launch monitors.
Steve Ridall of the Wilmslow store said, "I first saw FlightScope at the 2006 London Golf Show, my Nevada Bob Wilmslow store was undergoing a refit and I wanted to invest in launch monitor technology to enhance my indoor custom fit facility. FlightScope immediately impressed me and after nine months of use the accuracy and realistic data characteristics provided by its radar technology has without question increased my sales whilst allowing me to lower my hardware stock holding."
Johnson said that in addition to the accuracy of data, the portability and ease of use was of significant benefit to the customer. "FlightScope Kudu can be set up in less than two minutes and be moved very easily from place to place. Its graphics are of an extremely high standard. We believe all these factors set us apart from the competition."
He added that EDH continued to plan expansion and growth. "We received venture capital funding from HBD last year and this has allowed us to accelerate our product development, sales force and marketing drives. We look forward to continued success and further weighty international contracts."
